What is Arbitrage Betting?
Arbitrage betting - also called arbing or sure betting - is the practice of placing simultaneous wagers on all possible outcomes of the same event at different bookmakers, exploiting pricing differences to guarantee a profit regardless of the result. Fan Bet Odds explains the full method, free tools, and World Cup 2026 application on this page.
The opportunity exists because independent bookmakers price the same event differently. When the sum of all implied probabilities - derived from their offered odds - falls below 100%, a guaranteed profit window opens. This divergence is normally small (1–5%) and short-lived, as sharp money closes the gap within minutes.
Arbitrage is entirely legal. It is not cheating - you are simply making separate legal wagers with different licensed operators. However, bookmakers monitor betting patterns and may restrict accounts of players identified as systematic arbers.
Arbitrage betting is legal in most jurisdictions but may violate individual bookmakers' terms of service. Always verify local regulations and read the terms of each operator before placing bets.
How Arbitrage Works
The core condition for a two-way arbitrage is: (1 / O₁) + (1 / O₂) < 1. When this sum is below 1, the combined implied probability is below 100%, meaning guaranteed profit exists. For soccer's three-way 1X2 market, the condition adds a draw leg: (1/O_H) + (1/O_D) + (1/O_A) < 1.
Worked Example - Two-Way Arb
Sportsbook A - Team 1 wins
2.10
Implied prob: 47.6%
Sportsbook B - Team 2 wins
2.05
Implied prob: 48.8%
Combined: 47.6% + 48.8% = 96.4% - Arb found! 3.6% guaranteed margin
On $1,000 total: Stake $488 on Book A, $512 on Book B → profit ~$36 regardless of outcome
Find a divergence
Scan multiple bookmakers for the same event. When the combined implied probabilities of all outcomes fall below 100%, an arb exists.
Calculate stakes
Divide your total stake proportionally across all outcomes using the stake formula: S_i = Total × (1 / O_i) / Σ(1 / O_j).
Place both bets fast
Speed is critical. Odds move constantly. Place the leg at the less-liquid (sharper) bookmaker first, then immediately the second.
Confirm and lock profit
Once both bets are matched at the recorded odds, your profit is locked in regardless of the event outcome.

World Cup 2026 Arbitrage Strategy
World Cup 2026 runs June–July 2026 across 16 venues in the US, Canada, and Mexico. The 104-match tournament is the biggest single-event arb opportunity of the decade - with bookmakers from multiple continents pricing each game, divergences appear frequently across 1X2, Asian handicap, and total goals markets.
Target match-winner markets
1X2 markets for World Cup group-stage matches are priced by many competing bookmakers, creating more divergences than niche markets.
Use Asian bookmakers
Asian books like Pinnacle, Bet365 Asia, and SBO price lines sharper and earlier, making them the best source leg for arb pairs.
Act within the first hour
The largest pricing divergences appear immediately after match odds open - usually 48–72 hours before kick-off. Monitor your scanner continuously.
Protect your accounts
Round bet sizes to natural numbers. Vary stakes slightly across accounts. Avoid always betting arbs - mix in recreational bets to slow restrictions.
