    What is Odds?

The price a bookmaker offers on a bet, expressing both the implied probability of an outcome and the potential payout.

    Definition

Odds are the numerical price attached to a betting outcome. They serve two functions: they express the bookmaker's implied probability of the event happening, and they determine how much you win if it does. Odds come in three formats — decimal (Europe), fractional (UK), and American (US). The shorter the odds, the higher the implied probability and the smaller the payout per unit staked. Comparing odds across multiple bookmakers is the single highest-EV habit in sports betting.

    Example

If Argentina is 1.85 to beat Mexico, a $10 stake returns $18.50 (a $8.50 profit). The 1.85 price implies roughly a 54% chance.
