What is Point Spread?
A handicap that levels the playing field by adding or subtracting points from the favourite.
Definition
Point spread (US) is a handicap market in NFL, NBA and college sports. The favourite 'gives' points (-7.5) and the underdog 'gets' points (+7.5). You bet whether the favourite wins by more than the spread or the underdog loses by less (or wins outright). Both sides typically priced at -110 American odds (vig 4.55%). Half-point spreads (-7.5) cannot push; integer spreads (-7) can.
Example
Chiefs -7.5 vs Bills means Chiefs must win by 8+ to cash. Bills +7.5 wins if Bills lose by 7 or fewer, or win outright.
