What is Live Betting?
Placing bets after a match has started, with odds updating in real time.
Definition
Live betting (also 'in-play') lets you wager once a match is already under way. Bookmakers re-price every market every few seconds based on the score, time remaining, possession, expected goals model and incoming bets. Margins on live markets are 1-3 percentage points wider than pre-match because of the speed-of-pricing premium, but the upside is informational edge — if you watch the game and the price hasn't moved yet, you can act on a momentum shift before the market does.
Example
Pre-match Brazil at 1.80; after Brazil concedes 1-0 in the 20th minute, live odds drift to 2.40 — a value entry if you trust their pushback.
